How do I go to the store?
Just wondering today: how do I go to the store? If my child is too small to sit up in a grocery cart she has to be in her car seat. If she's in her car seat, where do I put her? The carts at my grocery store won't hold a car seat in the small section that is for little people, so basically, she goes down into the main section of the cart but then where do I put the groceries. (Not to mention that my grocery store is 2 stories and there's a strange lift thing that takes the cart up and down like a cart escalator while the people ride up on the people escalator, so you'd have to take her out of the cart for the trip both ways b/c it's not safe to leave the baby in the cart while taking the cart up the cart escalator). This is all assuming, of course, that whatever matt has going on doesn't require that he take the car. If he has the car, I can walk to the grocery store, but then what do I do with the stroller once I get there? There should be a manual for this kind of stuff. And once I figure out how to go to the store, can someone please tell me how to exercise? . . .

Yeah, I did the whole car seat in the big part of the cart thing. Do you have a carrier you could strap her on you with? I would strap her on my front and then you're hands free for the shopping - and that would also solve your no car issue. Just a thought :)It gets better. I remember when I thought I would never be able to get another haircut again...
ReplyDeleteDo you have a baby carrier like a sling or a baby bijorn? That would be my suggestion...you can carry and shop.
ReplyDeleteYou need a baby sling/ backpack carrier thing. I've seen people with something with the equivalent of 3 yards of fabric wrap their baby up on their chest.....I'm sure you could make one of those if you could get to a fabric market. I'll try to get a website for you to look at to show you what I"m talking about.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'll be redundant and say "sling her." I lived with Elli in a sling the first 5 months. Hands free, privacy when nursing, and can keep up with Ethan. Another perk . . . I count it as weight bearing exercise! :)
ReplyDeleteDitto on the sling. There are days I still wish I could put Annalie in that thing. As laid back as Maya is, she ought to love it. I used ours until she was over a year old. Do you have one? I have a Peanut Shell and loved it. I'll send it to you if you want...
ReplyDeleteKimberly kept telling me to get you one of those sling thingies, but I didn't know which one was the best. arggh. Until you get one of those, go to the store in the evening when Matt is home and he can keep Maya with him.
ReplyDeletethere's actually one called the maya wrap if you can believe that. i thought about getting you one but was kind of in a panic just to get her onsie done and it didn't happen. i'd be happy to send you one now so you can give it a whirl. i actually bought her a warm, winter hat too that i forgot to send. are you even having hat wearing weather?
ReplyDeleteOk, so the most obvious advice is the sling, but just to be different I'll tell you what I did since we only had a cheapy sling which I hated... First, if you do take the stroller to the store, I've had plenty of trips where I"ve left mine right there at the front with the security guard or the information booth people watching it. (granted my stroller is much cheaper than yours so I don't know how you'd feel about that...). Another thing I did is although the carseat doesn't technichally go in that front part of the stroller, I did find that I could kind of wedge it down in there pretty well so that I could have the back part of the car for groceries. Also, the seat would kind of wedge across the back of the cart so that you can still fit groceries under it. Obviously, the best solution is to shop without baby!
