SHOWERED WITH LOVE!

Today we had the most unlikely baby shower! Our good friends Alan and Amy, along with a whole host of wonderful people from Faith Memorial Baptist church gave us a baby shower for Maya Grace--via Skype! I looked up the definition of shower, and here are some of the meanings: to bestow liberally or lavishly, to deluge a person with gifts, favors, etc., to bathe in, to rain in a shower. That is exactly what this group of believers did for us. They LIBERALLY and LAVISHLY deluged us with gifts and with their love.

Getting set up for the arrival of a new baby is a very expensive and kind of daunting task here, and to be honest, after looking in a few stores at some baby items, I had become quite discouraged about the whole thing (and this is coming from a girl who loves to shop!). But Jesus is so faithful and so kind that through our friends Alan and Amy, He inspired this fellowship of people that we have never even met, to reach out to us as the Body of Christ and literally, shower us with blessings, with love, and with their support. This child will now certainly be the cutest dressed baby in the country!! And, Maya now has more aunties and grandmas than she will be able to count for many years!

It has been so hard to be away from our families for this long (it's been well over two years since we've seen many of our immediate family members) but we have also seen Jesus words' become so real to us when He promises: "and everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake, will receive a hundred times as much . . . (matt. 19.29). We are so humbled by the way this church chose to sacrificially give in order to love and bless us, and we're so moved that our Heavenly Father cares enough about our needs to meet them in such an extravagant and unlikely way--and not only to meet our needs, but to bless us with so much more than we could ask or imagine.

Faith Memorial, we can't wait to meet you all in person, and we thank you so much for counting us part of your family and loving us in this way! Alan and Amy, thank you for being the catalyst for this outpouring of love, and for your continued love and support. Words are not enough and it sounds so trite, but words are the best we can do, and so again, we say--thank you.

it was so cute how they displayed all of the gifts in the crib!

they projected their laptop screen so everyone could see us

  1. Oh Kellie, what fun!!!!! How did you not cry through the whole thing? I would have been a mess. I'm so glad you were loved on in such a tangible way. Sure wish I could throw you a shower! I've gotten really good at those diaper cakes. :) Can't wait to kiss on little Maya.

  2. JENNI!
how do i not know what a diaper cake is? is it a cake that looks like a diaper? i'm so confused. crying. . . strangely, even though the rumor is that pregnant women are very emmotional, i have been very even keel (even matt says so, and he was bracing himself for a storm). so no, i didn't cry, but I kept feeling dumb because I just didn't know what to say besides saying thank you a million times b/c what can you say when you are so thankful for something someone does, other than saying thank you? you know? it was one of those times when my words were not enough to match my gratitude. We've got a group coming in on Sat or sun and if all goes as planned, they will be bringing all of the baby stuff with them, so that will be so fun, and so soon to get to see it all up close and in person!! (and that way it won't get stolen in the mail or taxed like crazy) my new dilemna is that i have no idea where to find baby/kid sized hangers. hmmh. (and the dresser that is in her room is used as our medicine cabinet basically, so maybe it's time to change that set-up). getting ready for her is really starting to get fun! Wish you were going to be here to doula me though! I almost cried during the hospital "tour" becausse of all the dumb stuff they do here. i need to save this for a message to you! yikes!! :)

  3. Wow that is so awesome! Debe and I are scheming amongst ourselves to figure out how to do this at TBC. I love that they put it up on the overhead projector so everyone could see you! You have got to get yourself registered at some stores here, like WalMart, Target, Penney's and BabiesRUs so that they know what to shop for. I can bring a suitcase of stuff over and wondered if I could check a stroller and PacnPlay as luggage when we come. please advise on that. We are thinking about the first weekend in Nov so please check your calendar and let me know what Sunday would NOT work for you. This is such a neat idea, I cant wait!
ps, I love love love your new background!!!! I wish I could figure out how to do it, but I havnt given up, just dont have time to play around with it right now!
