Four Months

Well, this is maya's four month picture, and she's about to turn five months! I'm running a bit behind!

Easter!

We had a "sunrise" service on the beach today to celebrate Easter.
(which for us looks more like 8:30, but everyone arriving around 9:00).
It was perfect weather.
There were fishermen right off of the shore with nets and little boats which was so fun because we're imagining Peter jumping out of the boat and running for Jesus and barely having to use our imaginations!

I spent the 3 days proceeding Easter making Maya this dress.
The buttonhole maker on my machine wouldn't cooperate so i actually put the dress on her this morning, then sewed the buttons on to keep the straps on (and while Matt held her arms and she cried, I had visions of myself becoming a pagent mother--i swear i will never glue eyelashes on my child. I swear it!).
Not to brag on myself, but it turned out SO cute!

Jesus

It is a really good thing that Jesus loved me first, in order that I might be able to love Him. Today is Good Friday, the day I should be thinking about Him all day long. The day that I should weep tears of sorrow that my crap put Him on the cross. The day that I should shout from the rooftops that HE is the only way, truth and life. That no one can enter heaven except by Him. That He is the one true God by which everything lives and moves and has its being. But my affections are fickle and my attention was hardly on Him today. I thought about myself a lot today. And my child and husband. And how many dishes were piled up in my sink. And how much I dislike Friday at noon because it's when the mosques all around us broadcast an hour of preaching and singing the Qu'ran. And so today, I crawled in bed, pulled the covers over my head and took a nap. And today when we prayed before meals, thanking Him for the cross was an afterthought. Someone observing our lives today would have told you that there was nothing special about today--just same ole same ole. Jesus, you deserve better than this.

Good Morning!

Okay, first off, don't judge me for having a blanket and a "lovey" in her crib.

Yes i do read the books and therefore yes i do know i'm not supposed to put stuff in there.

But the people that write those books live in america, where there is this magical thing called insulation.

And evenly heated and cooled houses.

They don't live here.

Where the temperature in the sunny side of our house is drastically different from the shady side.

And I can think she's dressed in plenty of layers, and then walk into her bedroom and think, yikes, it's cold in here.

And people here are constantly telling me I don't have enough clothes on her.

And a person gets weary.

And so yes, I confess, I put a blanket on her to sleep.

And yes, I've been told to give her her "lovey" so she can learn to comfort herself with it, so she can comfort herself any time or place.

So I give her the lovey--but watch the video and see where the "lovey" ended up. . .

and don't judge me.

(look at her legs when the video first starts!)

Twice in One Day

I hear (and experience) that when more than one post is made in a day, often the reader doesn't catch the second one, so just sayin', there's a post of a video of peek-a-boo not to be missed that preceeds this one. For those of you as obsessed with our daughter as we are. Which should be all of you. Cause, hey, she's cute. The following things are all about her. I made her a skirt out of some cut off jeans. Don't worry, the skirt didn't turn out crooked, our kid did. She's with her buddy N. (well, sometimes they are buddies. sometimes N forgets that she (n not maya) is an aggressive arab who can kind of overwhelm a kid who just woke up . . . but that can be another post). I'm kind of rambling tonight. So, there's a pic of this awesome jean skirt that I made maya b/c i couldn't find one here that i could justify paying a jillion bucks for. I did it in one night. i was so excited about it that i was hoping she would wake up to eat in the middle of the night (first time i ever hoped for that) but she slept all the way through, so i made the whole thing without a single "try on" and it turned out perfect! but she sure is getting big (note the picture below that shows that she's not missing many meals) so i basically make her wear it like every other day b/c she's going to grow out of it soo soon! Doesn't hurt that denim matches everything!

not missing many meals!

Peek-a-Boo

(sorry about the steve green kid's bible memory music in the background--but i am telling you, listening to that with maya in the mornings gets scripture running through my head all day long!)
